Founder
Shalini Agarwal is the founder of Colorful Greens, with a Master’s degree in Horticulture specializing in Landscaping. She brings over a decade of professional experience, having worked with leading landscape architects on a wide range of projects. Her early work exposed her to conventional landscape practices, where she observed a strong reliance on ornamental planting that often lacked long-term ecological value. This prompted her to rethink the way landscapes are designed and implemented.
Over time, Shalini developed an approach that balances aesthetics with ecological function, integrating native and locally available species into her designs. She focuses on creating landscapes that are not only visually appealing but also contribute to soil health, biodiversity, and overall ecosystem resilience. Her work emphasizes the role of plants in supporting pollinators, improving soil conditions, and strengthening natural processes within a site.
Through her practice, she has been actively involved in developing biodiversity-driven landscapes, regenerative planting systems, and context-sensitive outdoor environments. She believes in designing spaces that respond to the land rather than working against it. Her approach combines scientific understanding with practical application, ensuring that landscapes perform well over time. Vivek Gonzalves
Director - Projects
Vivek Gonsalves is a landscape professional with over 15 years of experience in natural and restorative design. His journey has been deeply rooted in hands-on learning, including extensive work with tribals where he explored natural farming, vegetables, and diverse herbal systems. Over the years, he has been involved in a range of farm-based biodiversity developments as well as urban landscape projects, building a strong foundation in practical, site-responsive design. Vivek’s approach is centered around soil—understanding, rebuilding, and nurturing degraded soils into living ecosystems. His work extends into food forests, biodiversity-driven landscapes, and tropical planting systems that are both functional and regenerative.
A native of the Western Ghats, Vivek draws inspiration from nature, with observation and mimicry forming the core of his design philosophy. His ability to read landscapes and respond intuitively has become one of his key strengths. He is particularly passionate about creating systems that are self-sustaining and deeply connected to their ecological context. Vivek will be leading project design execution within Colorful Greens, bringing his experience into diverse and evolving landscapes. His work involves developing permaculture systems, food orchards, wetland vegetation, and integrated ecological environments. Through his practice, Vivek continues to focus on creating landscapes that restore balance between people, soil, and nature.
Alister D Souza
Director - Operations
At Colorful Greens, Alister D’Souza oversees general operations, skillfully balancing the nuances of planning, design, and project coordination. He transitioned into the world of restorative landscaping from a professional background in banking and supply chain, bringing a disciplined and methodical approach to the team. His journey began with a deep personal interest in the native species of the Western Ghats, which evolved into a dedicated study of botanical diversity and ecological systems. Over time, he has invested in learning regenerative practices and holistic design approaches to ensure his work is grounded in sustainability.
Alister coordinates the essential details that keep projects moving forward on schedule and plays a key role in the conceptualization of the brand’s social and technical presence. He assists in translating concepts into clear technical layouts, providing a structured foundation for the creative vision before it reaches the field. He is also involved in sites to support the transition from design to ground reality, ensuring the practical details are in place. Through continuous study and field experience, he has become well-versed in the plant palettes and structures that define restorative work. Alister’s contribution is rooted in a quiet commitment to organized, thoughtful, and nature-first development.
Jeeth Roche
Mentor
Born in Mangalore, Jeeth Milan Roche has spent over two decades dedicating his life to restoring the natural landscape of his home city. A known figure in the field of biodiversity, he has transformed degraded lands, such as local dumping yards and cemeteries, into thriving green pockets that act as the city's lungs. His work is deeply rooted in the soil, specializing in the Miyawaki technique and large-scale afforestation to rejuvenate air quality and groundwater. Jeeth is particularly recognized for his ability to revive dying ecosystems, including the restoration of long-neglected water bodies and the development of extensive urban forests.
Through his leadership at the Vana Charitable Trust, he has championed the protection of thousands of trees and led massive cleanup drives for critical local rivers. His approach combines practical field execution with a deep commitment to environmental law and sustainable waste management solutions. Beyond planting, he is a dedicated mentor who has inspired thousands of students and volunteers to take an active role in ecological conservation. Now serving as a mentor at Colorful Greens, Jeeth brings his vast experience in regenerative design to our large-scale biodiversity projects. He believes that the best way to protect our future is by actively giving back to the nature that sustains us. His journey is a testament to the power of observation and a relentless passion for creating resilient, living foundations for growth.
